About Us

The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.

Up and Running.....A recap from October

I can now say that our blog will be up and running again. Although we didn't end up buying a new computer (too pricey right now!) we did find an alternative fix. For now we have an old monitor hooked up to the laptop, making it more of a desktop type computer but much easier to view compared to the HUGE television screen.

I realized that I haven't been able to post anything since October 23rd, so here's a bit of a recap for the remainder of the month of October. Then I'll try and have a quick November post to catch you up on what we were up to, before trying to squeeze in December (since that too is almost over....YIKES).

So what did you miss in October?!?!

First: After our visit to the Pumpkin Farm, Ella spent a few days obsessed with going around the house picking all my pumpkin decorations and putting them in her stroller. She kept telling me she was a pumpkin farmer.

Second:  Winnie the Pooh became a favorite character in our house. We got several different books each week from the library and mommy dug out a Pooh doll she had. Pooh even had to have breakfast with us a few mornings (and he ate honey of course).

Next: We tried to carve the pumpkins we picked at the pumpkin patch. Daddy was all excited to carve them with Ella and she was too. We gave her two stencils to pick from and after choosing Frankenstein, her and daddy went to work one Saturday afternoon.

At first she was very excited and curious, as her face tells it all in the picture above. But it didn't take long before she wanted nothing to do with pumpkin carving.
"What did you do to my pumpkin daddy?!?!"

 "What is it?!?!"

"NO, pumpkin carve!!" So........Daddy had to finish Ella's pumpkin, but she loved the final result.

Finally: Halloween! The library where Ella and I attend story hour fell on the day of Halloween so the kids were asked to dress up and come for story hour. Since we hadn't really planned to take Ella out for Halloween in our neighborhood (being new we didn't really know anyone or where to go) she picked out one of her dress-up princess outfits she got for her birthday. She LOVED the mini parade and treats she was given at the library.

This sparked a great interest in trick or treating  (it's now almost Christmas and she still walks around the house "trick-or-treating" for small items like legos, fake food and her little people dolls).  We were invited last minute to go out Halloween night with a family of one of the guys Doug works with. His family and a few friends gather every year and go out in a big group with their kids. We figured it was worth a try and Ella LOVED it. She was sooo excited that night when Doug got home from work and we told her we were going trick-or-treating.

She took to the older girls right away and even though mommy and daddy were right there, she had no problem having a big girl helper.
