About Us

My photo
The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.

Homesick

It doesn't take much anymore to feel homesick. I thought it would get easier but I think it gets harder and harder. I believe that this happens to both of us, although not always at the same time. It seems like homsickness can strike at any random time too. For example; when I wash my hands and run out of my favorite hand soap, look through my cookbooks and decide ohhhh I want to try that, only to realize I can't get that ingredient here,  hearing a song that brings back a memory of painting our old house, seeing a few leaves change here in the fall and think "these leaves have got nothing on the ones at home", or for Doug it's at the grocery store where you can't buy a nice big steak!

Just yesterday it happened to me at lunch. I sat down to eat my cream of tomato soup. I quickly became homesick over my missing grilled cheese sandwich. I just can't get a grilled cheese sandwich to come out right here. It must be that fake preprocessed cheese at home....mmmm'

At least I had some Saltine crackers.
