About Us

My photo
The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.

Reminiscing in Copenhagen

Doug recently had a work conference in Copenhagen, so we decided to make it into another family get away. Back in 2006 we traveled together to Copenhagen for our first European trip. We spent time with a college friend of Doug's named Rasmus and his girlfriend at the time, Sarah. Little did I know then, that after leaving our visit with dear friends in Copehagen that our trip to Paris and the Eiffel Tower would lead to our engagement!

Spending a few days back in Copenhagen sure had us reminiscing about how different life has become for us. Who would have thought on that trip back in 2006 that someday we would be "living" in Europe!

Ramus and Sarah are now married and have two beautiful daughters. Uma is 2 1/2 years old and Nola is 6 months. Ella had a blast playing with Nola.

While they once shared stories while drinking beers at Otto's in State College, now they swap stories about changing messy diapers!

Since Legoland is also in Denmark, and Doug has been wanting to go, we decided to take our neighbor Matthijs along with us, and planned a stop at LegoLand on the way home. Before that though, Matthijs enjoyed some other activities with us.

Eating an "American" size cheeseburger at the Hard Rock Cafe in Copenhagen.

We also sent some time in the small amusement park Tivoli. We had visited this too on our first trip to Copenhagen, but this time having two children along made it just as fun!

Can you guess who had more fun....Ella or Daddy??

The park is a beautiful place to relax for adults, while kids play games or go on a few rides. We couldn't convince Matthijs to go on any, especially the fast ones that Doug loves. Maybe some day Ella will want to go on those rides with daddy. This ride was way to scary for Matthijs or I. It went up, and then dropped really fast. I think these kids on the ride may have done it a time or two and were prepared!

And last, but not least, I know Ella had fun, but I guess she got tired of having her picture taken....

Take #2.....much better!

The perfect carousel ride for Ella, but we were afraid it was a little too big for her right now.
