About Us

My photo
The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.

A Day in Deventer

Doug spends everyday working in Deventer, and other than our first visit to the Netherlands when Doug had an interview, we never spend any time walking around the city center there. Deventer's center city is very different from Arnhem, where we live. Deventer is much older since it wasn't bombed as heavily during World War II. In fact, Arnhem was leveled during the war and had to be completely rebuilt. We decided to spend a Saturday in Deventer and found that there was a small carnival going on that day. While it was not nearly as big as the fairs back home, it was similar with a few rides and of course games where you can win different stuffed animals.

It was nice to walk around and of course try some yummy food. Kristina tried a cherro, which tasted just like a funnel cake, but was in the shape of long french fries. Even though she is pregnant, and it doesn't look it here in the photos, Doug got to have a few bites too!

When Doug spotted this display outside of one of the tents, he just had to make Kristina pose for a photo. And of course those of you who know Doug, won't find it hard to believe that he tried to get Kristina to "pet the dog" for the photo. She however, remained mature!
