About Us

My photo
The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.

Happy Easter

It's Easter Day and we had a fun filled morning (with an early dinner to come). Ella woke up to quite a sight. The night before we left the eggs we had dyed by the front door.  She woke up with the egg carton empty, an empty basket to use for finding the hidden eggs and FOOTPRINTS!!

The Easter Bunny left his footprints ALL over the apartment. Her first reaction was "Oh no, Easter Bunny make a mess!" I think she's just like me when it comes to being OCD about messes, but these footprints were easy to make and clean. So easy in fact.......Doug cleaned them up since I took the time to put them all down.
I'll have a tutorial in a separate post about to make these bunny footprints later!

The footprints helped Ella find the eggs that The Easter Bunny had hidden.

She loved opening the plastic ones to find chocolate and jelly beans!

The footprints also led to her basket. (She still didn't have a garbage can for her room so we got one but used it as the basket for her candy and some of the small gifts)

She needed a little help finding her last egg. Doug asked her how she thought the Easter bunny got out of the house if he came in the front door. She immediately pointed to the door leading to the garage. This worked out perfectly because then she wanted to put on her shoes and go out there to look for him.
She found her last egg and we got ready to go out into the garage where we found more bunny footprints!

It led to another basket which had things that wouldn't fit in the garbage can one. It seems like a lot, but really it was $1 store items, some brand-new looking used books I found at a book sale, Gertrude Hawk Smidgens which were really for all of us, a stuffed animal she got back when she was a baby and I packed it away with baby toys, but now that she is into stuffed animals more I dug it out and some puzzles....which were the most expensive of anything.

Then the footprints led her outside to the balance bike we bought her over a year ago in Holland but haven't had the right opportunity to give to her.

She was very excited and ran right over and hopped on before we could tell her about riding a balance bike. She immediately tipped over, cried and didn't want to ride it anymore. I hope this doesn't mean it will take forever to get her to try it out again!
We then spent until nap time going through the basket of goodies. Ella wanted all the candy from her eggs separated and into a baggie she could carry around.

We can't wait to celebrate with "sunshine" next year!
