About Us

The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.

Hup Holland Hup!

That's what everyone was cheering this past week as Holland played their first two games of the Eurocup. Saturday evening we cheered on Holland with the Ambtings. We went to their house for some snacks and watched the game together. Everywhere you go people's homes, stores and even cars are decorated in orange flags in honor of their team. The dutch flag is red, white and blue, but orange is the color of the royal family; therefore when it comes to football people often wear orange.

We took some patriotic M&M's we bought earlier in the day!

Ella loves going over to the Ambtings, so she was all set and ready to go!

The M&M's came with a lion mane (the mascot for Holland).

Watching the game got pretty intense. If there is one thing we have learned about Holland, they are VERY into football!!! The entire town seemed like a ghost town compared to a usual Saturday night because everyone was SOMEWHERE cheering on Holland! Even the Ambitings showed some team spirit!
It didn't take long for a little someone to discover the snacks!

On a very random note, I had the smallest can of coke I have ever seen. I guess they are quite popular here. Maybe they have these in the U.S too but I have never seen them.
Matthijs has these little squeaker toys that you could use as a noise maker when cheering on the players. Ella got in on the action too. She loves Matthijs!

Unfortunately, Holland lost to Denmark during this game and then lost later in the week when they played Germany. Maybe in the 2014 World Cup Holland!
