About Us

The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.

Reuse

Some time ago I decided to recycle all our puff containers. They are pretty expensive little containers when you take into account that they were all shipped from the U.S (over a period of time of course).  Since Ella became more interested in rolling a ball, I figured a homemade bowling set would be perfect.  It was very simple and easy to do. You could just wash out the Puffs containers and set them up as pins. I decided to take it a step further and put different colors and numbers on each of the 10 pins. Later this will come in handy and I won't find myself having to do it.

At first Ella did not like the concept of actually knocking down the pins, but thought it was necessary to always have them standing up. Every time we would help her to roll the ball to knock them down she would get the saddest look on her face and say "Uh-oh, Uh-oh", over and over while setting the pins back up.

her "Uh-oh" face

But now these homemade bowling pins offer at least 15 minutes of fun. Ella is at the point where she doesn't even ask me to get them out for her. She can get the small plastic tote off the shelf herself and open it. She sets up the pins and knock them down, although to see her knock them down is very funny. She doesn't have the concept of letting go of the ball, so she holds on to it and walks into the pins to knock them down. She's always so proud of herself when she sees the pins fall.

She is even finding out how to occupy her time with the bowling set tote. Today I could hear her from the kitchen going "rum, rum, beep, beep". I found her in the living room taking Scout for a ride!

Scout was singing The Itsy Bitsy Spider" which Ella loves to make the hand movements to.
