The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.

Happy First Birthday Ella (in Holland)

Ella's first birthday was only a few days before her and I left for our visit home to the U.S. Since her birthday happened to be a Monday, we had a small celebration with our Holland family the Ambtings on Sunday. We had them over for dinner and some cake. They had never had chicken spiedies and being one of Ella's and our favorites we decided it was a great meal to share with them.





She was such a ham during our meal! A few decorations made it a special little party.






Then of course there were presents!! And a party hat she DID NOT want to keep on her head.







Finally a yummy cake and cupcakes. We saved the cake for her actual birthday (more with the next post) and enjoyed the cupcakes with the Ambtings. Ella was so careful with her cupcake and needed some help knowing what to do with it in the beginning. She was WAAAAY to neat and didn't make the mess we were expecting either. She actually ate every bite!
