Every year, on the First Sunday in August, the town of Deventer (were Doug works) holds their annual book market. It is a nationally know event with over 850 book stalls along the beautiful Ijssel river, into the Old Town and across the lovely city squares. This book market attracts thousands of book lovers and visitors. There was more than 6 kilometers (3.7 miles) of books with the participation of renowned antiquarian booksellers from the Netherlands. The large number of stalls in the Deventer Book Fair has become the largest in Europe, offering everything from children's books, poetry, literature, comics and books on sports and history.
It was a beautiful day to be out. Although it is summer here, it felt more like a brisk fall day. At first we weren't sure where to even start. Most of the book stalls had Dutch books, which wouldn't be much use to us.
Finally we found the information booth and picked up a booklet which listed the venders names, what types of books they were selling and where to find them along the 3.7 mile stretch of books!
After spending nearly 4 hours walking around and browsing the listed English sections we found some good picks for Ella and for myself. Unfortunately there weren't any books that interested Doug.
For only 20 euro Ella was able to get 5 new books and I found 6 to keep me busy. I even settled on a classic: Pride and Prejudice.

About Us
- The Wilcox Family
- The title for our blog came from the saying "thinking outside the box", which means to think differently, unconventionally or from a new perspective. "Enjoy your choices and enjoy what you do. Never let a day go by without being thankful for the fact that you get to be here in the first place." Hopefully this blog will help family and friends to stay a little closer to us even though were thousands of miles apart; as well as to share in our trials, daily life adventures and traveling experiences.
