Soon the car was packed with a stroller and rain net for Ella as well as our umbrellas (which we have learned are better off staying in the car at all times anyway) and we were off to spend our morning in downtown Arnhem.
Since we rarely, if ever go out to eat, we started off by treating ourselves to breakfast. At least that was the plan. We were quickly diverted when we saw the "Super Stroopwafel" tent. Neither one of us had ever seen a stroopwafel that big, but we have heard about them. We were so excited to try one. The big pot you see in the background is the warm caramel goodness they put in the middle. You can see on the griddle the super sized ones compared to the regular size. They took the two cookie pieces and spread the caramel filling on each side before putting the cookie together fresh for us to eat!!
It was pure heaven and dessert before breakfast.
Thanks to a friend of ours, also an expat, we found a small cafe that has bagels!! This was one food we really missed when we first moved here. The cafe is called "Bagel and Beans"....how perfect for a morning breakfast stop. A nice fresh homemade bagel and a cup of coffee. Of course Doug got coffee and I had fresh squeezed orange juice.
I love when we each order something different......and then share!
They each came with a cucumber (something that we have found is a very common breakfast food in Europe) that we let Ella try for the first time. I think her face says it all!
Finally the best part about their menu (besides all the delicious food you can order from it)...
