We celebrated our first family Valentine's Day here in Holland (and yes, they do celebrate it here). Last year on Valentine's Day, I was home telling everyone that we were expecting a baby. This year we were able to see how it is celebrated in another country. This holiday, however, is really not any different here than it would be back in the United States.
Just a few differences:
(1). We could not go to Walmart and pick out a funny or romantic card that is printed in English. Therefore I made a homemade card for Doug from Ella and I and he purchased a simple enough Dutch card for me, and I was able to read it!!
FRONT: For you.... INSIDE: Happy Valentine's Day
(2) The chocolates are much better! You don't end up buying a huge box that you stuff yourself with. Doug got me a small little box with only 6 pieces of different kinds of chocolates. The best part though, is that the heart shaped box that they came in, is also made out of chocolate....yum!
And of course, with Ella this year, it was fun to have her give both mommy and daddy gifts!
